Decemberborn Interactive has decided to whip up something new for Nintendo Switch folks, and they’re calling it Cathedral: Crow’s Curse. Honestly, I never thought I’d care about something like this until it caught my eye. Maybe it’s the name. Sounds mysterious. Or maybe I just need a new game distraction. Who knows?
So, we’ve got this prequel thing going on — standalone, mind you. No homework required — no previous game-playing necessary. Here, you take on the world as Crow, a Shade Sentinel. Yes, it’s as cool as it sounds. Crow had a cameo in the original Cathedral, but now he’s got top billing. The Shade Forest is all out of whack (isn’t it always something?), and Crow is basically the unlucky hero tasked with diving into cursed woods and old ruins. I mean, talk about an average Tuesday, right? Not even sure why Crow bothers, but I guess someone’s got to deal with those dark forces messing up the balance or whatnot.
The combat in the game is supposed to be, what did they say, “fast, fluid and skill-based.” Basically, you gotta be on your toes, dodging and blocking like your life depends on it — which, it does, if you’re Crow. You see, sneakiness is crucial here. Maybe you’re a ninja at heart and prefer to sneak by enemies or stab them when they’re not looking. Whatever floats your boat.
Eric Lavesson, the big brain behind Decemberborn, had something heartfelt to say about their creation. You know, the classics about pouring hearts into projects and all that jazz. Sometimes I catch myself eye-rolling at these, but you gotta appreciate the passion, right?
Here’s what you can expect in terms of features — I pieced this together from the devs’ rather enthusiastic descriptions:
-
Skill-Based Combat: So you’ll tango with challenging foes. Seems like a no-brainer, but the real trick’s in timing your hits just right.
-
Seamless World: Hand-crafted or whatever, but they claim it’s super interconnected. Like one of those jigsaw puzzles that’s missing a piece but somehow fits.
-
Stealth and Tactics: Stay in the shadows, or, if you’re feeling bold, jump out and smack ‘em. Just don’t get caught. There’s an element of suspense there that I find oddly thrilling.
- Upgrades Galore: Hunt down powerful items, expand skill trees… you know, the usual RPG motivation. Keeps things fresh, I guess?
Oh, and for the big question — when does it drop? Funny enough, there’s no official word. Soon-ish, I hope? Keep an eye on that Nintendo eShop.
So there you have it. Random tidbit: they even dropped a trailer somewhere for it. Haven’t seen it yet. But I’m sure it’s loaded with dramatic sequences and all that hype.
