Alright, here we go—let’s dive in.

Hey there! I’m Michael Frei. So, I worked on this quirky little game called Time Flies—yep, you play as a fly. It’s flapping its way onto PlayStation 5 on July 31st. Maybe you stumbled across it on the PlayStation Blog ages ago? Anyway, after all this time, it’s finally (almost) here.
Before you get to buzzing around as a fly, the game checks where you’re playing from.
Oh, and here’s a tidbit you didn’t ask for: Switzerland, according to the World Health Organization, has a life expectancy of 83.3 years. So, in-game, you get 83.3 seconds. Makes total sense, right? Meanwhile, you U.S. folks get 76.4 seconds because… well, that’s how long y’all live on average. The real kicker? You’ve gotta tick off your bucket list before you kick the bucket—literally, in fly time.
Now, of course, some lands are trickier than others. Imagine playing from Switzerland and having just those 83.3 seconds. Or maybe that’s easier? I dunno. Brain teaser for another time.
Anyway, bucket lists! What do you even do before your fly-self bites the dust? Hard question. Don’t overthink it—the game throws a list at you. The trick is figuring out how to do these things and squeezing ’em all into one wild ride. You’ll flop at first (I sure did). But hey, life’s about trying, right? Many rounds to nail it.
My favorite task? “Find God.” Yep, you read that right. Designing it was a trip. No spoilers, but I dare you to go deity-hunting yourself.
Picture this: an early sketch of a controller felt the fly might just buzz across the directional pad… confusing much? But in a charming way.
Idea time! Ever played a game where you’re a fly inside a video game? And—get this—you try to find God there? Initially, we thought, “how about a platform game where you escape hell for heaven?” Uh, yeah, hit a wall with that… who knew, right?
The kicker was, as a fly, you only hit one button at a time. No fancy combos. So, you fly, land, bounce, walk—basic fly stuff.
Eventually, we nailed it with something simple. A game where the only moves are left, right, and a trigger to kick things off. Finding God turns out to be, well, a matter of looking around. Maybe you head left, maybe right. Easy-peasy on paper, but then things get twisted—a game within a game as a fly in that game? You follow? I barely did.
Anyway, hope you have an absolute blast navigating through Time Flies on your PS5 come July 31st! 🖤

There, all done—hope it flies, pun intended.
