Alright, so, here’s the scoop. Lyrical Media—yeah, that company—decided, “Hey, why not dive into indie publishing? Sounds fun.” So they cooked up Lyrical Games. Original, huh? Leading the charge is Blake Rochkind. This dude used to be the biz dev guy at Private Division. He’s not alone though, cuz he’s brought along this motley crew from Private Division, Devolver, Humble, and even Microsoft. Quite the dream team, or maybe just a grab bag. Who knows?
Anyway, they’ve got three mysterious projects in the pipeline. Like, top secret stuff. But apparently, one of them’s tied to Blackbird Interactive, the folks behind Homeworld 3. I don’t know about you, but that got my attention.
Blake’s all about developers, like, really into them holding the reins of their own games. He’s saying there’s just so much noise out there these days. A game dev doesn’t always need a publisher, right? So Lyrical Games is trying to be the cool publisher, the one devs actually want to hang out with.
Oh, this part was kinda interesting—or maybe just marketing fluff? Blake went on about how in this “new normal,” both devs and publishers need to be on the same page right from the start. Not just talking about what the game’s gonna be, but who’s even gonna play it, and how to reach ‘em. Sounds sort of deep, but also a lot.
And then there’s this, what do they call it, ‘triple-i’ space? It’s like indie but with a twist. They reckon they’ve got one of the best deals around for these indie types. Developers get to keep their IP. That’s a big deal. Plus, Lyrical Games is all about being partners, valuing collaboration and transparency—or at least that’s the pitch.
So yeah, it’s a whole new indie world out there, and these guys are jumping in like they own the place. Or maybe like they just rented it for a bit. Eh, time will tell.
