Okay, so picture this: you’re chilling on your couch, and suddenly you’re whisked away by this virtual reality thing. Sounds wild, right? Well, it’s called Touching the Sky. It kinda dropped on Quest, courtesy of Red Bull and Jonathan Griffith Productions. And they’re not playing around. Wingsuit base jumpers doing their thing in the European Alps, paraglider folks floating over the Himalayas in Pakistan. It’s a full-on immersive trip for an hour—like you’re there but, you know, not really.
Just imagine, they used these crazy custom 3D, 360 cameras to catch the action. You get to pseudo-hang out with Fred Fugen and Vincent Cotte, who are basically flying with those wingsuits. They’re dropping from the sky in the Italian Dolomites. By the way, Fugen said in some Red Bull blog—no clue why I remember this—that the wildest part was dealing with all the freefall chaos and syncing with drone pilots. Apparently, they barely practiced together. Quite gutsy, if you ask me.
And then there’s Aaron Durogati and his buddy Matthias Weger. They’re gliding over the massive peaks of the Pakistani Himalayas, aiming to get all up in those high-altitude clouds. Durogati was like, “Pakistan’s flying vibe is extreme,” or something like that. The mountains there are monstrous, and if you mess up, well, good luck, because it’s not like rescue choppers are just hanging around in the sky there. Ironic, considering how casual rescue seems in the Alps. Go figure.
So if you’re up for it, you can watch this whole thing on Meta Quest TV. Yeah, it’s for free, but only if you’ve got a Quest 2 or something above that. Oh, and there’s also this behind-the-scenes thing Red Bull’s sharing. It’s like a half-hour of peeking into how they put all this mind-blowing stuff together. Might wanna check it if you’re curious about all the craziness behind such intense filming adventures. Or not. Your call.
