I’m really not sure why, but there’s something about Square Enix dropping a fresh trailer for that Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake — it’s got my attention. So, here I am, trying to make sense of it. This thing’s coming to both the Nintendo Switch 2 and the good ol’ Nintendo Switch. Weird choice, right? Makes you wonder if they ran out of other platforms or if they just like Switch that much.
Seems like it’s that same gang, Square Enix Team Asano, behind the wheel. Remember them from last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake? Yeah, they’re mashing those two games together, taking us back to the saga of Erdrick — that legendary hero dude whose family tree’s as twisted as it gets in this series. Probably. Maybe it’s a heroic family reunion, for all I know.
And man, this HD-2D style — pixel art characters partying with 3D backgrounds? Talk about a throwback with a twist. It’s like retro gaming decided to put on some fancy new glasses.
Oh, and don’t even get me started on the Collector’s Edition. It’s up for pre-order if you’re into that sort of thing. You get the game in physical form (which somehow feels cooler?) and these cute character and monster blocks. Why you’d want a pixelated dog or boss monster on your desk, I don’t know, but hey, who am I to judge? Plus, there’s this whole outfit kit. Imagine strutting around with Slime Earrings or a Mad Cap in-game. Styling? Maybe. Probably not.
And let’s not forget some digital wallpapers to jazz up your gadgets. Two of them, to be precise. I guess it’s a neat little bonus if you’re into spicing up your screens.
So, mark your calendars or don’t — but Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake is hitting shelves, both real and digital, on October 30th, 2025. It’s still a bit of a wait, but hey, maybe time flies when you’re distracted by… other stuff.
