You ever have one of those moments where two animal-person species finally get the hats they deserve? Yeah, that’s what’s happening with Hrothgar and Viera in Final Fantasy 14. Like, FINALLY, they can start rocking some headgear. This came straight from the horse’s—err, developer’s mouth in a Letter from the Producer Live stream, and it’s all dropping in Patch 7.3. Square Enix just casually mentioned it, no biggie, on a Friday. TGIF, right?
Oh, and about time if you ask me. Since 2019, these furry and floppy-eared friends have been kinda stuck with limited options because, well, cat ears and bunny ears made helmets a no-go. But no more! They’re promising more headgear in future updates too. But let’s hope they focus on those fancy outfits you can actually buy. Seems fair, doesn’t it?
Yet, as much as I love talking about hats (weirdly fascinating, right?), Naoki Yoshida and Toshio Murouchi had other juicy tidbits in this Letter from the Producer. So, strap in, because here’s where it gets real: Patch 7.3, or as they call it, The Promise of Tomorrow, is like, the closing finale of the Dawntrail saga. Cue dramatic music. Early August is the plan.
And then there’s a buffet of cool new stuff: a buddy-buddy scenario with the Yok Huy, where I imagine chaos ensues. The Meso Terminal, hitting level 100 expert dungeon status. Think you’re extreme? Try the new trial on for size. And there’s this 24-player alliance raid, San d’Oria: The Second Walk — it sounds like a wild adventure through a mystical land or maybe just a really long walk. Then, we’ve got Seiryu in The Wreath of Snakes, which sounds intense, if not slightly terrifying, and a Deep Dungeon named Pilgrim’s Traverse. That’s a mouthful.
But honestly, none of that matters as much as those poor Hrothgar and Viera finally not suffering from a fashion crisis. Six years, people. Six. Can you imagine going that long being mostly hatless? Seems like a societal disaster narrowly averted.
And yeah, before I forget, you can dive into this whole FF14 universe on just about anything: Mac, PS4, the fancy PS5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and the Xbox Series X.
Alright, I think I’ve rambled enough. Happy gaming, or hat-wearing, or whatever it is you do when you’re done reading this.
