Alright, I’m just gonna dive in here and see where my scattered mind takes me. So there’s this guy, Rob Yescombe, right? Co-creator of this VR mystery game, The Invisible Hours. Wild stuff. Anyway, he got the rights back for this game—dunno how that all works—and he’s thinking, why not bring it back? Do a remix or something for the new VR headsets. Oh, and maybe a TV or film thing too. Because, why not?
Saw it in Hollywood Reporter, or was it somewhere else? Doesn’t matter. He’s on the lookout for partners to make this jump from headsets to Hollywood. Pretty ambitious if you ask me. The game itself feels like Agatha Christie threw a party and invited the game Clue, chilling in some massive spooky mansion on an island. Kinda sounds like where I’d love to be, sipping tea and solving mysteries.
Now, in the game, you’re not exactly a character, more like a ghost Sherlock Holmes. You can zip through time—rewind, fast-forward—trailing after seven suspects. And the big whodunit? Someone knocked off Nikola Tesla! Crazy plot twist, huh?
Launched back in 2017, folks loved it. Then Tequila Works, those behind the game, wanted to take it to Quest around 2020. But, life happens…or maybe business stuff…and by 2024, the studio was gone. Poof.
So here’s Yescombe, owning this game’s whole vibe now, saying it’s the perfect time for a revival. “I adored making The Invisible Hours,” he gushed—could almost hear the piano crescendo in the background. Fans apparently still blow up his inbox. VR tech’s exploding, so why not bring the old gang back for a new jam session?
Since then, he’s penned stuff for other games and movies too. Did Twilight Zone VR and some flicks like Outside the Wire. Seems like he’s everywhere. Movies, shows, games—you name it. Alien, Blade Runner, even Family Guy. Guess he’s got stories for days.
So yeah, maybe we’ll see The Invisible Hours back in action. Or maybe not. Time will tell, right?
