Switch 2, huh? Fastest selling console ever—3.5 million in one weekend. Blows my mind. But then, last week’s lack of announcements feels like ordering a huge burrito and finding out they forgot the guac. Anyway, here’s what we got:
– Final Fantasy Tactics remaster and Mortal Kombat Kollection at Sony (still hanging on with Switch 1).
– A Sonic Racing game that keeps slipping. More characters for Marvel Cosmic Invasion—yep, you guessed it, also for Switch 1. Street Fighter VI somewhere in the mix at SGF kickoff.
– Story of Seasons: Grand Bazaar trailer. Another one for Switch 1.
– Call of the Elder Gods and Constance, both for Switch 1 and 2 at Future Games. Yes, Call of the Elder Gods—no Switch 1 release, finally something unique.
– Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3-4 demo (preorder conundrums, sigh).
So that’s five spanking new Switch 2 games and updates for five oldies. Meanwhile, Switch 1 is touting 45 new titles. Crazy, right? But maybe not.
Remember the whole PS2 to PS3 saga? People still vibed with PS2 long after PS3 hit the scene. Weirdest thing—PS2 saw some big hits, even post-PS3. Like God of War 2. Persona 4 managed to crawl in 2008. PS2 had a massive audience. You wouldn’t just drop them, not when PS3 was that pricey.
Nintendo’s pulling the same stunt. Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends are sticking with Switch 1. No idea about Rhythm Heaven Groove. If it still works on Switch 1, why not keep it there? Less hassle, right?
Devkits. Either they’re just now rolling out tons of those or it already happened under our noses. No clue. You heard anything? Hit us up. This year saw a bunch of dev reveals, so maybe that’s the ticket. But really, in video game time, it’s like sprinting a marathon.
Microsoft. 2022. Persona trilogy coming to all platforms, but Nintendo waited ages to spill that for Switch 1. So yeah, they like to play catch with exclusives. Persona 4 Revival a surprise drop for Switch 2? Who’s to say?
June’s usually Direct time for Nintendo. I’m banking on it—they love scheduling it during my vacations. Hopefully, they’ll throw us some bones like they did with Splatoon Raiders.
Ramble time. Super Mario World movie coming up. Could that mean a Mario Kart World or Donkey Kong game next? And why do Nintendo and Doritos Pope Geoff avoid each other like exes at a party? Though, Joker in Smash was unexpected.
Microsoft’s Switch ventures—Grounded, Pentiment, Rare goodies—always announced by Nintendo. Halo on Switch 2? Fingers crossed.
Launch day gave us 24 games (plus five upgrades). Enough to chew on for now. 3.5 million strong and counting. So, before crying ‘dead platform,’ chill. More will swing by soon. Just a hunch.
