Alright, folks, so I stumbled onto this new VR game release or something. It’s from nDreams (who’s been doing this VR stuff forever), and their new gig’s called “Reach.” Yeah, and it’s supposed to be quite immersive. The cool bit? They’ve got a new team, nDreams Elevation, behind it.
Anyway, just last week, they threw us a bone with some gameplay footage. It’s a mix of action, parkour, and a bunch of movements that seem really VR-ish. I mean, they really want you to feel like you’re in the game, which, let’s be honest, is kinda the whole VR point, right?
So, this guy Matt Duff from nDreams Elevation—he’s the design director—dropped some wisdom about what makes Reach tick: it’s all about action, adventure, and presence. Simple stuff, but deep, maybe? I guess it’s more about making you feel like you’re really there. They’ve got this thing where you can pull yourself through the game world, which sounds pretty hands-on. And, oh, jumping! That’s a thing here too. I know, it sounds wild since VR jumping usually equals motion sickness. But apparently, they’ve cracked it with some gesture stuff.
Player agency, they’re big on that too. If it looks climbable, guess what? You can climb it. Sounds neat. They’ve got a Full-body Awareness thingamajig—no more floating hands! It’s like your game avatar actually has a body. Imagine that.
Combat? There’s a mix. High action or sneak around like a ninja, your call. Tools of the trade include bows with every arrow you can dream of—explosive ones, freezing ones, and even stun arrows. Stealth players can distract enemies with arrows and get right up in their faces.
This whole thing’s set to drop on most VR platforms later this year. You can wishlist it on Horizon Store, PlayStation Store, or Steam. Go on, check it out if you’re into all that.
