Didn’t expect to hear so many shouts of joy, did you? Walking around PAX East, it’s like magic (literally) and a splash of fantasy collided head-on. Wizards of the Coast? Nailed it. This Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy mash-up had folks practically dancing in the aisles. I mean, seriously, Chocobos and dreamy land cards? Who knew?
Anyway, backtrack to February — they showed off a few cards then, but this time, it’s like opening a treasure chest. You could almost feel the anticipation in the air as people figured out what’s gonna be in the summer-release. Playing these things? Seems like it’s going to change up the whole game.

So, Magic: The Gathering’s doing these wild crossovers. We’ve seen Lord of the Rings, Marvel, even Spongebob — because why not, right? Chris Cocks from Hasbro is already saying this Final Fantasy set’s breaking all the records. Honestly, doesn’t even matter if the economy’s on a rollercoaster. People want their cards, and they want them now.
