Scribbles and Thoughts
Whoa, so 8BitDo hit the pause on shipping to the US. Yeah, those Trump tariffs—something like 145% if I remember, which sounds mind-numbing—caused this hiccup for those nifty Switch and Xbox controllers. But hey, if you’re in the US and already got stuff stashed in their warehouse, you can still snag them. Lucky, right?
Anyway, it’s part of this whole saga of tariffs on Chinese imports. A quick side note here: those tariffs bump prices all over. Microsoft even hiked their Xbox prices by a hundred bucks come May. Like, yikes to 600 bucks for a Series X and 380 for a Series S. Crazy times.
So, 8BitDo’s plan is to hold off sending stuff from the China warehouse back to the US for a bit. I caught it on Polygon that any delivery to the US from there is a no-go. Ah, those new 8BitDo Ultimate 2 controllers with those fancy TMR stick sensors are part of this pause. But no worries, if it’s in their US whatchamacallit warehouse, you’re good to go.
Honestly, figuring it out? Just toss something in the cart, see if they’re shipping it to your doorstep. Or hit up Best Buy, Walmart, or Amazon. Their stuff’s still floating around out there. Might need to race the clock before they run out though. Real talk.
And oh! Like a side note—Square Enix also froze some shipments over similar tariff stuff, so it’s not just them. Feels like everyone’s hit a pause button here and there lately. Fingers crossed 8BitDo sorts it soon so the goodies start flowing again. Who knows? Maybe they’ll announce a restart out of nowhere. Life’s unpredictable.
