Okay, so here’s the deal. This guy Zack from JerryRigEverything, you’ve probably heard of him, decided to rip apart the Nintendo Switch 2 and then told us all the juicy details, which, by the way, were pretty neat. So, while I was half paying attention, I heard that the thing is super modular. I mean, the Joy-Con 2 sticks and even the headphone jack are swappable. Who knew, right?
Now, here’s where it gets interesting, or not, depending on your perspective, but they say fixing this thing might hit your wallet a bit harder. Parts ain’t cheap, folks. But if you’re the DIY type with a Philips and a tri-point screwdriver lying around, you can dive in and have at it yourself. Zack even put it back together, like, no problem at all. Crazy, right?
Oh, and the batteries. Man, they glued those suckers down. I don’t get it. So, if you’re thinking of taking them out, you better have a ton of alcohol and maybe some patience. And then there’s the part where the game card slot and USB-C ports are part of the whole shebang — like soldering-iron-required kind of deal if you break them. Good luck with that.
Back to Zack though — he was most excited about smacking that screen around. They had this screen protector on it, just in case the screen went kaput into a bajillion pieces. So, what does Zack do? He goes all in with some hefty pliers, just for kicks, smacking it over 50 times. The darn thing finally broke, and you know what? A quick reset got it up and running again. Seriously!
Not saying you should drop it for fun, but it might survive a drop or two, maybe even if you’re super clumsy like me. Just don’t say I told you to do it — because, well, warranties and all that.
Oh, and if you didn’t already know, Tom’s Hardware is your go-to for more of this stuff. Probably should follow them or something, in case you care to stay updated.
