Hey folks, so let’s talk about Monster Train 2, shall we? This is the sequel from Big Fan Games, Devolver Digital, and Shiny Shoe. It’s all set to shake things up on PS5, and boy, do I have thoughts on this one.
Imagine, just when you thought you’d seen it all – boom, heaven and hell are duking it out, and whoops, things go sideways. I mean, I’ve always been a sucker for a good old roguelike deckbuilder, so when Monster Train: First Class hit the scene, I was all over it. Naturally, now with Monster Train 2, I’m back in that conductor seat. Can angels and demons really get along? I mean, talk about awkward family dinners…
So about this new setup: Heaven tries a smackdown on hell, and guess what? They accidentally release these mighty Titans. Kind of embarrassing for them. Next thing you know, angels and demons are suddenly best buds trying to fend off the Titans. You got new clans, cards, items, and oh, loads of fresh challenges. Difficulty levels galore too, so you can adjust to your liking.
If you’ve played the first game, you already know the drill. If not, well, buckle up. We got five new clans each bringing their unique flair, plus new card types to keep you on your toes. Can I just say those room cards are a total game changer? You can add effects on your train’s floors – pretty neat, right? And equipment cards, which you can slap onto anyone – friend or foe. Nice twist there.
Now, oh dear, the story. It takes center stage more this time around. You’ve got cutscenes at the Covenant Outpost with all these characters clashing and plotting – like a soap opera but with more chaos and less kissing. And, you’ll see these Pyre Hearts with different effects. Like, spend some cash to clone a card from your deck. Crafty strategies await.
Runs are randomly generated (yay, unpredictability!), and you gotta safeguard that Pyre, otherwise, the game’s up. Enemies climb the train floors, trying their best to ruin your vibe. The Pyre packs a punch if they reach it, but still, you’ll want to kick them out as early as possible.
Oh, and about spells, they cost Ember, so, like, a balancing act is in order. Firestarter, Just Cause, these are not just wild spells – they’re tactical moves. Hey, throw in some equipment cards too. Some attach to enemies, turning the tables unexpectedly.
Enemies invade, move upwards, and attempt to clobber your Pyre. Stop them fast, or watch them waltz up to your precious Pyre. It’s part of the crazy, nail-biting fun. Post-battle goodies? Coins and cards to beef up your deck. Oh, and choose wisely. Quick ability with the Upbeat Warbler can change the tide by letting units strike first. Talk about getting ahead!
While zig-zagging around the map, each route offers something different. The Pyreborn Banner for units, Merchant of Steel for boosting powers, events with choices that might trip you up. It’s like a railway roadmap of never-ending decisions. Weird nodes pop up, and you’ll have to think on your feet. Could be anything!
Now, trophy hunters, take a breath. There’s a Platinum trophy dangling like a carrot for those willing to dive deep. Achievements range from upgrading swings to strategic gameplay tweaks. Some are head-scratchers, making the completionist sweat.
So, this sequel? It’s a wild one worth hopping on. The twisty plot with heavenly and hellish alliances, plus that roster of features, turns Monster Train 2 into a can’t-miss journey. Loads to unlock – clans like Luna Coven by casting spells, the works. There’s even an Endless Mode to push your strategizing to the edge. Challenge accepted?
Monster Train 2? For PS5 owners, it’s rolling in hot today. Dive in and let the chaos train ride.
