You know those days when you just can’t figure out why you got hooked on something? Like how I spent hours obsessing over Everdeep Aurora. Yeah, it’s this game by Ysbryd Games and Nautilus — out on Nintendo Switch. They’re calling it a “lonely, desolate, yet hope-filled 2D adventure,” and I get it. Kinda.
Picture it: You’re playing as Shell, this cat — which, oddly enough, reminded me of my own cat who thinks he’s a dog. Anyway, Shell’s diving through this crazy underground world, trying to track down her mom. Meteors rained down and messed everything up. So, you end up drilling through earth layers and rocks, making your own path. Ever tried legos blindfolded? Feels like that, sorta.
You meet all these characters — like actual friends in this underground maze. There’s Aster with his hidden garden, and Remulus, who’s got some mad skills with metal — maybe he’s a walking anvil, who knows. But building these connections? It’s like grabbing coffee at midnight with a stranger who somehow knows your hometown.
Mikel Ojea from Nautilus Games was all about inventing this place. I guess if you’re gonna send a cat subterranean, you better have an awesome backdrop for it. And they did. Kinda wild, imagining life underground — but then, here I am wondering where I left my headphones.
Let’s talk features — just for a sec. Every decision you make? Changes everything — secret caves, sprawling cities down there. You could almost smell the moss or whatever subterranean places have.
And then there’s this pixel art — looks like art school threw a party. Plus, the soundtrack that doesn’t leave your head. Different for each area. You walk in, and it’s like, bam, new vibe.
So, mark it — July 10, 2025. It’s hitting the digital shelves on Nintendo eShop. Anyway — wait, no — did I mention there’s a trailer too? It might’ve floated around somewhere. Go check it out… or don’t. Your call.
