Though Hogwarts Legacy has taken the top spot as the best-selling game of 2023, there’s still room for upgrades in its future sequel. Even though it seems like any additional content for the original game has been canceled, a sequel still appears to be in the cards. However, Hogwarts Legacy isn’t the only big-name adventure looking to its future.
Gamers have been eagerly awaiting Far Cry 7. Known for intense survival tales, Ubisoft’s franchise has its own unique twist on the action-adventure genre. Yet, surprisingly, Far Cry and Hogwarts Legacy share a common ground. Where Far Cry should refine its hero, Hogwarts Legacy 2 needs to come up with a more compelling villain to captivate players.
The antagonist in Hogwarts Legacy was the Goblin Ranrok. Although the choice to have a goblin as a villain was fascinating, Ranrok ultimately fell short. His motivations weren’t convincing and made him feel one-dimensional, limiting the story’s potential impact. In the next installment, fans will be hoping for a villain that packs a bigger punch and offers a challenge worthy of Hogwarts’ top students.
Despite Ranrok’s shortcomings, the hero of Hogwarts Legacy was still able to shine. However, a stronger backstory in the sequel would hugely benefit the main character. Thankfully, the RPG elements allow players to personalize their character, giving them the power to build a deeper connection with the protagonist.
Meanwhile, Far Cry has become famous for its unforgettable villains. Characters like Vaas Montenegro, Joseph Seed, and Pagan Min are central to their stories, drawing players in with their magnetic yet terrifying personalities. But the franchise often overlooks its protagonists. Jason Brody was a standout exception, but many of Far Cry’s lead characters lack depth, making it hard for players to invest emotionally in the narrative.
There are whispers that the next Far Cry game might be set on an island near Korea. Despite the excitement, Ubisoft hasn’t confirmed these rumors, so they should be taken with a grain of salt.
The next chapters for both gaming franchises remain uncertain. While Hogwarts Legacy 2 seems to be some years away, Far Cry 7 hasn’t officially gotten the green light from Ubisoft. Fans find themselves eagerly watching for any news about launch dates. It’s possible that the new Hogwarts Legacy game might be released to coincide with HBO’s live-action Harry Potter series, which could be an exciting time for fans of both the game and the show. In the meantime, all eyes are on the developers to see what creative twists and improvements they bring next.
