ILM and Lucasfilm have just unveiled a sneak peek of their upcoming Quest 3 game, Star Wars: Beyond Victory – A Mixed Reality Playset. This exciting new title promises to offer a blend of both virtual and mixed reality gameplay that’s sure to captivate fans.
Teaming up with Meta, the studios provided the first chance for hands-on experience with the game during ‘Star Wars Celebration 2025’, held from April 18-20 in Tokyo, Japan. Attendees were treated to a tantalizing glimpse of the gameplay through its first teaser.
While still in the works, the game is set around the timeline of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). Players can look forward to three distinct modes when the game launches on Quest 3 and 3S.
These modes include a VR/MR story mode that follows the podracer Volo, an arcade mode offering mini-podracing on a mixed reality holotable, and a ‘playset’ mode where users can embellish their physical spaces with an array of virtual action figures and vehicles that can be unlocked as they progress.
Alyssa Finley, the Executive Producer of the game, shared, “We’re calling this a Playset because it’s more than just a game; it’s a groundbreaking way to dive into the Star Wars universe and the worlds we craft at ILM. This mixed reality experience fuses the physical and digital realms in an unprecedented way, and we can’t wait to offer this special preview to our passionate Star Wars community.”
If you’re heading to the event at the Makuhari Messe in Tokyo this Friday, don’t miss the chance to experience Star Wars: Beyond Victory firsthand at the ILM and Meta Quest booth located in Hall 4, Booth #20-5. You’ll also find demo stations featuring their earlier XR ventures like Vader Immortal and Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge.
Although there’s no release date yet, given ILM’s track record with VR in the Star Wars universe, we can anticipate a gradual update of information until the big launch. Keep your eyes peeled for more details!
