Okay, so I picked up this report, and wow, there’s this bit that jumps out at me about how the Black Panther game almost used the Nemesis System. Cliffhanger Games, apparently started by folks who left Monolith Productions—those geniuses behind Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and its sequel, tried to take the Nemesis thing to a whole new level. (Side note: I loved those games, even though I still can’t find my way out of a paper bag in them.)
So, Monolith had this system where enemies remembered you. Yeah, they held grudges against Talion, the main dude, and they’d come back for a second round. Some ran away, got all beefed up, and others, after knocking him out, acted all surprised to see him again. It’s wild, right? And the bad guys getting promotions among their Uruk pals made them feel, I don’t know, more alive? Less like meat puppets you just hacked through.
Anyway—wait, no, backtracking a bit—imagine that but in a Black Panther game. According to Bloomberg, you’d have multiple charact—wait, heroes. Yeah, heroes! T’Challa, his kick-ass sister Shuri, and even Killmonger (who, let’s be honest, stole every scene in 2018). They were fighting off these alien dudes, Skrulls. If you’ve seen Captain Marvel or read Secret Invasion, you know—they’re sneaky shapeshifters.
Skrulls could totally shake up the Nemesis gameplay. Think about it—an ally suddenly betraying you? Surprise Skrull reveal! Boom, twist right there. I can almost feel the controller slipping out of my hands in shock. Your trusty sidekick turns out to be a villain you thought you took out ages ago. Mind blown!
But then, plot twist—EA messed it all up. No upgraded Nemesis System for us. And those brilliant devs are now, like, in the wind, searching for their next gig. That’s the real punch to the gut.
