I’m diving into what’s up with the Mortal Kombat covers. So, here’s the thing: Mortal Kombat usually flaunts its dragon emblem right smack in the middle of its box art. Flames licking around it, you know the deal. Sometimes a fighter or two will sneak in there, but not often. That all started changing around 2011. They decided, hey, let’s spotlight our heavy hitters instead. Go figure.
Scorpion, the guy’s been plastered on about three out of four game covers since this whole switcheroo. Except for Mortal Kombat 1 where Liu Kang hogged the limelight. Probably because he’s a god or something now. Who’s to say what’s next? Maybe we’re in for a long wait. But let’s play the guessing game on who might be front and center when it does roll around.
Noob Saibot’s story is a wild ride—get this: Bi-Han gets snatched up by some Khaosrealm baddies. Tortured with magic, transformed, revenge on the brain. Sounds like a soap opera, right? Anyway, Liu Kang steps in before Noob can get his sweet revenge. Tower endings? No big shock there—our man Noob busts out and is gunning for Liu Kang and his buddies. I mean, bank on Noob Saibot making the cover if they keep this storyline cooking.
Of course, Scorpion or Liu Kang are the vanilla choices for the next cover. Scorpion’s practically the face of the franchise. Everybody knows the guy, even if you don’t play games. And Liu Kang? He’s just graced the recent one. No brainer really.
And then, Orin’s this dragon from Edenia—a stretch from the past shows. She popped up in some expansion or other. What are the odds she makes it onto the cover? Slim, but if she winds up mattering big time in a sequel, maybe they’ll spotlight her.
Now, let’s talk about Mortal Kombat 1—it didn’t exactly win everyone over. Fans weren’t thrilled with the missing lineup, folks like Kano and Sonya Blade being no-shows. NetherRealm might just slap every character on the next cover to win back the crowd. Sort of like, “Hey, look, we’ve got everyone this time!”
So yeah, that’s about the gist of it. Who knows what’ll end up on the cover, but it’s fun to guess, right? Anyway—wait, did I miss something? Maybe. But there you have it, in all its chaotic, crazy glory.
