Alright, so here’s the thing—I’ve never dived into Bravely Default on the old 3DS. Weird, right? Friends kept yapping about how it’s the ultimate RPG like Final Fantasy. But then, PAX East 2025 rolled around, and there it was—Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster. Couldn’t resist checking out what I’d missed. Spoiler: It was a lot.
First off, big difference. No more dual screens. Sad trombone. The devs really poured their hearts into the HD graphics though. Shiny new UI too. I threw a cheeky suggestion at one of the Square Enix folks about freshening up the second game too. She smirked, stayed tight-lipped. Maybe it’ll happen ’cause I brought it up. Wishful thinking?
Now, lemme talk about the demo. It’s timed, which is kinda meh for RPGs, right? Ended up fast-forwarding through dialogue and cutscenes. Oops. But hey, got a feel for the combat—super funky battle system! You got these Brave and Default moves. Like, Brave lets you attack multiple times but leaves you wide open to attack after. Default? That’s your buddy for defending and saving turns for later. Me being reckless, I just spammed Brave attacks. Loved the thrill. It’s definitely more brains than brawn when you settle into the full game though.
Didn’t mess with the job system, but—wow—I’m on board. Kicking myself for skipping it on 3DS all those years back. Good thing this remaster is happening. Perfect for rookies like me. Grab it when it hits Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5. Same day as the console’s big debut. Coincidence? Nah, just good timing.
