Sony has rolled out an exciting update for the PlayStation VR2 App, expanding its usability to include SteamVR content. But the real gem in this update is the added capability to troubleshoot those pesky controller tracking issues that many users have faced.
In the newest version, v3.0, a feature called “Bluetooth connection quality” has been introduced. This nifty tool lets users evaluate how effectively their controllers are interacting with their PCs. When the app first launched in August 2024, granting PSVR 2 compatibility with SteamVR games, users were experiencing headaches due to poor controller tracking. A big reason for this frustration is that the essential PSVR 2 PC adapter does not facilitate controller connectivity to the PC. Instead, you’re relying on a standard Bluetooth connection.
Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal, but Bluetooth adapters can really be hit or miss. Their performance can be influenced by where they’re plugged in on your computer and the presence of other Bluetooth devices nearby, which can interfere with the signal.
Sony does provide a helpful guide of officially supported Bluetooth adapters, alongside steps for troubleshooting bad connection quality. Nevertheless, there continues to be rumbling from users, some of whom have even invested in the recommended adapters.
The v3.0 update introduces a “Check Bluetooth Connection Quality” option, which goes a long way in helping users pinpoint if their Bluetooth connection is the root cause of their tracking woes. If not, users can explore other potential environmental culprits like reflective surfaces or strange lighting affecting performance.
This update doesn’t stop there. It also tackles several other areas, such as fixing an annoying controller vibration delay and enhancing the app’s overall performance and stability.
Back in December, the v2.5 update attempted to shed light on whether Bluetooth issues were causing tracking difficulties by alerting users if poor connection quality was detected. This latest update builds on that foundation, aiming to give users a smoother and more seamless gaming experience.
